Overview
After a thorough reading assessment I develop a custom literacy program. During each tutoring session I utilize the assessment outcomes. I use the Orton-Gillingham approach which is a "direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy."
Duration & Frequency
Sessions are typically 1 hour and students receive intervention 2 to 5 times a week.
Format
Sessions can be done in person or via zoom.
Being a parent of a struggling reader can be very hard and confusing. I am a parent advocate, available to help with many aspects of navigating the process of IEP's, 504 plans, and extra help in school. As an Orton-Gillingham trained literacy specialist, my tutoring and teaching experience helps with achieving the most beneficial help for each student.
Meetings
Help with facilitation the coordination of the many team members need to support your child.
Meeting Prep
Help with preparation prior to IEP and/or 504 meetings including planning for accommodations & or modifications.
Quality assessment is the key to intervention. I offer complete reading evaluations that include in-depth assessment of:
Phonemic Awareness
Phonics
Fluency
Vocabulary
Comprehension
Word Recognition
Spelling
Word Reading Efficiency
Includes many separate assessments to ensure all aspects of reading have been assessed including dyslexia screening. A final report is sent which includes all the results, explanations, and recommendations. In addition, a meeting to discuss any questions or concerns is included.
