I am an Orton Gillingham Reading Tutor committed to this approach. Orton-Gillingham is the gold standard in literacy because it is a "direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy." I am a literacy specialist that offers dyslexia screening for students of all ages. I, also, help improve student progress through parent advocacy.
As an Orton-Gillingham Reading Tutor, I bring a unique approach to literacy intervention. I conduct comprehensive assessments and Dyslexia screenings, gaining deep insights into each student's strengths and areas for improvement. My passion for helping children learn to read, write, and spell led me to establish Peak Reading in Jackson, WY. I am committed to providing structured literacy instruction and guiding parents on the journey to reading success.
I am an Associate Level Orton-Gillingham Academy trained tutor, a certified teacher in Wyoming with a Teaching Certificate (K-6), a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Seattle Pacific University, an ESL endorsement (K-12) through the University of Wyoming, and a Degree in Human Development from Boston College. I am also a facilitator for LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling), training teachers nationally. My teaching experience includes working at Red Top Meadows, Jackson Elementary, Journeys School, Colter Elementary, Axis Kids Academy, and privately tutored reading. I currently have eighteen (plus) years of teaching experience.
My work experiences have allowed me to work with students from preschool to high school, and these experiences have helped me grow as a teacher in every way. I understand the continuum of learning, I have created custom reading programs for students at every level, and I truly enjoy working with students of all ages. I have built a good rapport with teachers, administrators, parents, and specialists.
My understanding of teaching phonological awareness, phonics, comprehension, fluency, orthographic mapping, and vocabulary is constantly evolving. I am dedicated to continuous learning, regularly undertaking research and courses to enhance my private tutoring business, which is solely focused on literacy intervention. This commitment ensures that I always provide the most effective and up-to-date strategies to my students.
